The strain of COVID-19 which has led to the six-day lockdown of South Australia is feared to be especially lethal, having already replicated five times since it was first discovered just days ago.
The Australian is reporting the sudden lockdown of the state was a move which was approved by Prime Minister Scott Morrison but failed to impress peak business groups as the Adelaide cluster meanwhile sits at 22 infections.
Sky News contributor Caleb Bond commented on the issue saying, “I think it’s quite an extreme and heavy-handed approach to what we have here in SA at the moment”.
“We must admit that it’s only six days, it’s not like we’re looking at the Victorian situation where for more than 100 days they were in lockdown,” he said.
But this is the strictest lockdown that this country has seen and I suspect one of the strictest lockdowns that the world has seen.”
