Greg Toombs was a professional contractor who worked as a countertop installer who was also a skilled plumber and carpenter. Ten years ago he was injured carrying a 200 pound countertop through an apartment building while

trying to install it. After his injury it took Worksafebc 5 months to get the proper CT and MRI done to confirm his C5 C6 C7 neck injury and also to his left arm. Once they finally got the diagnosis he was rushed into surgery a month later and that is where the trouble began. During his surgery he was awoken twice to put 2 units of implants to fuse his spine after the device to hold it together. This is highly unusual as I have heard of people being awoken once occasionally to get permission if there is no medical proxy available but never twice. There is no record from Dr.Chan the surgeon on any surgical report that this happened as the only record on file was the pre surgery outline of what was supposed to happen not actually what did happen.

After 10 years he has still not been able to get the records or documents relating to what had happened during his procedure after a tireless search.

After the surgery he was supposed to have 6-12 months of proper evaluation and rehab but was not given any of this. His situation had gotten worse instead and after all this time no one has been held to account.

In 2011 after one year from his injury date Worksafebc had plateaued him and had his claim denied from the point on. Despite in his file they acknowledged that he has a permanent disability, Worksafebc chose to deny him any medical treatment, wage loss or pension benefits. He has gone through constant daily pain since and has also dealt with depression and mental health issues resulting from his treatment from WCB. Greg was forced to go to the Federal CPP monthly benefits due to the fact Worksafebc says that he is the government's problem. For 10 years he has been asking about the implants that were put in his neck and been denied even after going to the Legislature in Victoria a couple of years ago. After numerous request for a FOI or Freedom of Information we were able to go through his file and find a implant part number and surgery number so maybe if we can find a lawyer we will be able to force the False Creek Surgical Center or WCB into getting all the proper documentation to which thus far has been redacted.

Since 2017 Greg has been the VP working for the BC Human Rights Organization helping injured workers get justice and compensation that were being denied by Worksafebc. He has been a huge help to Jas Gill the President of the BCHRO ( https://www.bchro.com )

and to many disabled workers across the province and will continue to do so until all injured workers get their financial restitution for the injuries that they deserve. Despite everything he has been through he has not given up on the system to which has screwed him over and will continue to persist until the

corrupt system to which caused this mess will finally get fixed for all.
