⁣ask "Does this cat have brothers and sisters?" when you adopt a cat🙂

Many shelters do not have space for animals that are waiting to be adopted, especially cats. ACF provides some equipment and covers some of the expenses of new volunteers who provide temporary foster care or who adopt an entire family of kittens.

Our campaign called "Keep Families Together" raises awareness of the opportunity that many people who adopt might not be aware of. When adopting a kitten, please ask "How many sisters and brothers does this kitten have? Are those kittens also available for adoption?"

VOLUNTEER HOURS FOR TEENAGERS
We have a project that focuses on reaching teenagers. Students often need proof showing that they have completed a certain number of "volunteer hours" (in order to graduate from high school). Taking care of two kittens for 8 weeks (45 minutes a day) can give about 40 volunteer hours.

Here are six reminders
⁣Six Reminders: The organization also promotes effective and psychosocial well-being with recommendations such as
(1) When adopting a kitten, ask “Does this kitten have any brothers and sisters? If so, I’d like to adopt them, too.” Don't separate kittens .
(2) Clean Daily "one litter box per cat and "add an extra litter box" and
(3) "Provide hiding places" and safety in high places (cat trees)
(4) "Provide running water with a cat fountain."
(5) “Slow, Low, 2-5-5”:
a) approach a cat SLOWLY from the front and get on your knees, (get low) ,
(b) stop 2 feet away,
(c) stretch and hold your hand at least 5 inches from the cat’s face (and below the level of the cat’s chin), and
(d) wait 5 seconds for the cat to move closer to your hand. Then you can scratch the cat’s chin and throat.

Warning: This is a difficult story to read. Just imagine how difficult these words were to type. I’m crying as I create this article.

I ran over a kitten with my car. I was in a rush, I was thinking about the day ahead. I started the car, put it in drive and hit the gas pedal. When I returned from work, I saw the dead kitten. I could call his death an “accident,” something that I had no control over. After all, the kitten was feral and six months old -- he should have been afraid of cars. However, he would still be alive if I had simply looked under the car. His brother continues to look for his missing playmate.

JOIN THE “LOOK UNDER” CAMPAIGN
I have taped an index card to my keychain with the words “UNDER THE CAR” written on the card. I hope the reminder will become as widely known as “Don’t drink and drive” and “Arrive alive” … Spread the message: www.TINYURL.com/underthecar.
