Australia is in a "watershed moment" when it comes to the national pandemic response, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.
"Dominic Perrottet has announced that the politicians are back in charge," Mr Kenny said.
"He hasn't only announced it, he's demonstrated it; no longer will we see the Premier of New South Wales outsource the running of his state to unelected health bureaucrats, or see him hiding behind the mysterious, often cited, but never seen medical advice."
On Thursday, the newly elected Premier unveiled a number of changes to the state’s reopening roadmap just days before NSW opens to the fully vaccinated on October 11.
It comes as New South Wales has reached its 70 per cent fully vaccinated milestone.
Mr Kenny said the changes are “long overdue”.
“This is a normalisation of a public health response, a normalisation of government and a normalisation of democracy,” he said.
“The new premier is all about elected officials making the key decisions, and he is all about opening up; compare that to the paranoid lockdown fetishists and hard border enforcers in the other states.”
