Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton has announced a suspension of public transport in Melbourne’s CBD from 8am until 2pm this Saturday.
The restrictions are being implemented due to a protest scheduled for this weekend, with numbers expected to be higher than the protest held on the 21st of August in Melbourne’s CBD.
Chief Commissioner Patton says the decision was not taken “lightly” but was deemed essential to deter people from coming in to protest.
“What that means is: any buses will bypass the city, any trams will be stopped before the city … trains will not come into the city during that period of time," he said.
